RiverHawks Forgo 2010 Season in Preparation of Move to Coeur d’Alene
The
RiverHawks will not be
participating in the 2010 West
Coast League season to focus
instead on solidifying the
details of the team’s upcoming
move to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
“The plans
are moving along, but there are
still some variables in
regards to the move that need to
be ironed out,” said Irv Zakheim,
owner of the
RiverHawks.
Zakheim said that one
of the major factors that needs to be
solidified before the plans can move forward
is the acquisition of the land that will
house a stadium and offices of the
RiverHawks.
“Taking this time off
will allow us to devote more attention to
getting the land that will be the RiverHawks’
future home and ensuring a smooth transition
to Coeur d’Alene,” he said.
Although the RiverHawks
will not officially field a team in 2010,
the organization will still be active in
youth baseball by hosting various camps and
clinics for young players throughout the
Inland Northwest. The RiverHawks also put on
a Fall Development League for players in
grades 8-12. This league will help players
have more of an impact on their high school
baseball teams by augmenting the skills
they’re developing in their high school
programs. It will also help prepare them for
the next level of competitive Single, Double
or Triple A ball. The Draft Date for the
League is Aug. 28 at Gonzaga Prep, and the
first game is scheduled for Sept. 12.
